Dr Deba Prasad Barua Memorial meeting held

Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti ( MASS) and Parag Kumar Das Information and Research Centre (PKDIRC) jointly organised the Sixth Deba Prasad Barooah Memorial lecture at Guwahati Press Club on January 28, 2019. Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, the Chairman of PKDIRC presided over the meeting. Lachit Bordoloi, the Secretary General of the organization explained the purpose of the meeting.
Akhil Ranjan Dutta, Professor of Gauhati University gave the introductory speech where dwelt upon the socialist ideology of Late Dr. Deba Prasad Barooah and showed how Dr. Barooah blended it with the ideology of regionalism and Assamese sub-nationalism. He also told the gathering that Gauhati University is soon going to name one auditorium in the name of Dr. Barooah and start a memorial lecture in his honour. Arup Borbora, the Adviser of PKDIRC told the audience how Late Dr. Barooah was at the forefront of intellectual leadership during the period of crisis in Assam.
The other dignitaries present in the meeting include Paresh Malakar, Secretary of Assam Citizen Forum, Adip Kumar Phukan, renowned journalist, Nekibur Jaman, well known lawyer, Mrinal Hazarika, ULFA leader, Haidar Hussain, distinguished social worker, Keshab Chandra Saharia, Chairman MASS, Sumitra Hazarika, eminent social worker Bimal Prasad Chowdhury, ex-president of Assam Jatiyatabadi Jubo Chatra Parishad, Dilip Patgiri, Ganesh Goswami, Pranab Chetia, Ankur Tamuli Phukan, Sanjay Barbora and host of others.
In the inauguration ceremony Dr. Barooah’s son Charlie Barooah and his daughter-in-law gave a floral tribute to the departed soul.
